Ex - Heritage Numismatic Auctions,
Inc.'s "Texas Collection," January 4, 2001, Lot 4190, where it
was described as follows: "Original
Series $1 First Charter, Fr-380, Fine. Although this note appears to be
a serial number one example, the serial number has been altered by the
erasure of at least three digits. In addition, the digit that appears to
be a "1" may actually be a "4." The pen signatures
are clear and bold, and the overall appearance is quite acceptable. It
is unfortunate that someone fiddled with this note, and unusual in that
a First Charter ace from Texas is a highly desirable rarity in and of
itself and the job done was poor enough to make detection easily
accomplished by all but the most novice observers.
The note is well centered, and the paper retains some crispness. This
note still deserves any and all accolades, simply because of what it is.
This bank, chartered in 1866 and liquidated in 1890, had only $2,203 in
all denominations outstanding in 1910. A mere five notes, all large
size, are reported in the census."
